Shingles blown off during recent Calgary winds, leaving the roof system exposed.
Field notes
Over the past week, we've been on multiple properties across Calgary dealing with wind-related damage. This is not isolated to one area or one type of home. We're seeing the same failure patterns repeat across roofs, siding, soffit, fascia, and eavestrough systems.
What Wind Is Actually Doing to Roofs Right Now
Wind doesn't need to rip a roof apart to cause problems.
In most cases, it:
- lifts shingles and breaks their seal
- creases them so they fail later
- exposes underlayment and nail lines
Once that happens, the roof is vulnerable even if it still looks fine.
Shingles blown off completely, exposing the decking underneath.
This is no longer a small repair. Once wood is exposed, the system is already compromised.
If you're seeing anything like this, it's time to plan roof repair in Calgary before the next storm makes it worse.
What we're seeing this week
- shingles lifted and torn off
- exposed roof decking
- vinyl siding panels pulled loose
- soffit sections blown out
- eavestroughs bent from debris impact
The Damage You Don't See Yet
Not all damage shows up as missing shingles.
A lot of roofs right now have:
- lifted tabs
- broken seals
- weakened sections that haven't failed yet
Shingles lifted and creased, but still in place.
This is the stage right before full blow-off in the next wind event.
Most homeowners miss this completely.

Lifted and missing shingle sections — this is typically the stage right before full blow-off.
Damage that gets missed from the ground
- lifted tabs
- broken seals
- weakened sections that have not failed yet
- exposed nail lines
- loose roof edge components
