This one came out of a hail claim on a typical northeast home where the vinyl siding took a consistent hit across the rear and side elevations. You could see the damage right away, panels were cracked, punctured, and starting to open up in spots, especially mid-wall and around window lines where the impacts tend to show the most. At that point patching wasn’t going to hold, it would have left the exterior uneven and you’d still be dealing with failures in other sections not long after.
We removed the affected vinyl and went back to the wall so it could be prepped properly before installing new material. From there the scope shifted into a full Hardie board install on those elevations so everything ties in clean instead of mixing old and new siding. Trim and flashing were redone as part of the install, which makes a big difference around windows, corners, and horizontal breaks where a lot of these systems usually start to show issues.
On hail claims like this, once the damage is spread across multiple areas, it generally makes more sense to upgrade the system rather than try to piece repairs together. The finished result is more consistent across the home and holds up better long term, especially in areas that see repeat storm exposure like this.
