Calgary solar financing

Calgary Solar Incentives and CEIP Financing in 2026

The useful question is not whether an old rebate article still exists. It is what Calgary homeowners can actually use now, what the current CEIP intake requires, and whether the roof and solar scope make sense before financing is attached to the property.

Calgary CEIP is the main local solar financing program to watch right now

The City of Calgary lists the next residential Clean Energy Improvement Program intake for September 22, 2026. The current program information says eligible homeowners can finance up to 100% of approved project costs, to a maximum of $50,000, with repayment terms of up to 20 years depending on the upgrade.

Calgary currently estimates the interest-rate range for this intake at 5.66% to 5.80%. The final fixed rate is set when the CEIP agreement is signed, so homeowners should verify the live program page before making a financing decision.

CEIP is financing, not a rebate. Repayment is added to the property tax bill, and the financing is attached to the property under the program rules.

What Calgary homeowners should know before using CEIP for solar

Solar PV is an eligible upgrade

CEIP lists grid-connected solar photovoltaic systems as an eligible renewable-energy upgrade, subject to the current technical and program requirements.

Use the program process before work starts

CEIP financing is not retroactive. Homeowners should complete the required pre-qualification, evaluation, project application and agreements before installation begins.

A qualified contractor is required

Projects financed through CEIP have to be completed by a CEIP qualified contractor. Confirm who is responsible for the solar, electrical and permit scope before relying on the financing.

The roof still has to make sense

A financed solar array can still be a poor decision on a roof that is close to replacement. Roof condition, remaining service life and the mounting plan should be reviewed before the final solar scope is locked in.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed

Older Calgary solar articles still reference the Canada Greener Homes Grant. That program is closed, and December 31, 2025 was the final deadline for existing applicants to submit documents.

The Canada Greener Homes Loan is also closed to new applications. Homeowners comparing solar incentives in 2026 should not build a project budget around either federal program.

What to prepare before a detailed solar proposal

Financing is only one part of the decision. A useful solar proposal should also show the proposed system size, panel and inverter equipment, expected annual production, the home's actual electricity use, roof condition, electrical requirements and the work included in the installed price.

Trusted starts with the property and roof model, then moves the homeowner toward a detailed proposal once the roof, usage and equipment assumptions can be confirmed.

Roof replacement and solar financing should be planned together

If a roof is already nearing the end of its service life, that should be discovered before the array is installed. Otherwise the homeowner can end up paying to remove and reinstall solar equipment when the roof needs replacement.

We would rather separate the roof decision from the financing decision, confirm what work is actually needed, and then coordinate the sequence with the solar installer.
